Exercise can support health and help preserve strength during weight loss, but no Ramadan workout melts fat from one body area. Lasting weight change depends on energy intake over time, while the scale also reflects fluid, stored carbohydrate, food, and digestion.

Use two kinds of movement

Perform two manageable full-body strength workouts each week and walk on several days. Strength work gives the body a reason to retain useful muscle and function. Walking adds activity with less recovery cost than daily hard intervals.

Weekly actionStarting point
Strength2 sessions of 30 to 45 minutes
Walking15 to 30 minutes on 3 to 5 days
Hard cardioOptional, only when recovery supports it
RestAt least 1 day without planned hard work

Food still matters

Build iftar and suhoor around protein, produce, carbohydrate, and appropriate fats. Serve enjoyable food intentionally instead of labeling it bad or trying to earn it with exercise. Sugary drinks and repeated unplanned portions can add energy quickly, but complete restriction can also lead to rebound eating.

A large review found that energy, carbohydrate, and protein intakes changed on average during Ramadan, with wide variation between studies and people (systematic review). Another meta-analysis found small, often temporary average body-weight changes (meta-analysis). Fasting alone therefore does not promise a particular result.

Read the scale correctly

Compare a weekly trend under similar conditions. Also track strength, walking comfort, waist measurement if appropriate, sleep, and daily energy. Do not react to one reading by skipping meals or adding a punishing workout.

Weight loss is not appropriate for everyone. People who are underweight, pregnant, breastfeeding, growing, recovering from an eating disorder, or managing certain conditions need professional guidance.

How Rizanah helps

In the Rizanah mobile app, fasting settings can follow prayer-based or custom eating windows. Meals includes food and water logging, while Train keeps your weekly workout plan and completed workout history. Rizanah does not read sleep or symptoms and does not automatically change a workout because you are fasting, so you remain responsible for choosing a safe time and adjusting or stopping when needed.

Visit Rizanah to find the mobile app for iOS and Android.

The main idea

Use strength to protect function, walk consistently, eat balanced portions, and judge progress across weeks. More intense exercise is not automatically better for weight loss.
