A gym workout before iftar should be short enough to finish with control and close enough to sunset that food and fluid are available soon. This 30-minute template uses familiar movements, fewer sets, and a moderate effort cap.

The template

Warm up for four minutes with easy cycling or walking and light versions of the first exercises.

ExerciseSets and repetitions
Leg press or goblet squat2 sets of 6 to 10
Chest press or elevated push-up2 sets of 6 to 10
Seated row or pulldown2 sets of 8 to 12
Hip hinge or leg curl2 sets of 8 to 12
Carry or easy core exercise2 short sets

Rest long enough to breathe comfortably. Finish each set with about three good repetitions available. Use machines when they reduce setup time and balance demands. Do not add a hard finisher.

Control heat and timing

Choose an air-conditioned or well-ventilated area. Avoid a long hot walk to the gym and finish near iftar. Have your break-fast food and drink ready, but do not leave valuables or food where gym rules prohibit them.

Research in athletes suggests that late-afternoon high-intensity performance can be affected during Ramadan, while results vary by measure and study (systematic review). This supports reducing demand, not assuming every before-iftar workout is unsafe.

Stop when symptoms change

End the session for dizziness, faintness, confusion, loss of coordination, chest symptoms, unusual severe weakness, or signs of overheating. Move to a cooler safe place and obtain urgent help for severe symptoms. The CDC identifies confusion and altered mental status as heat-stroke warning signs requiring emergency action (CDC heat guidance).

People with diabetes, pregnancy, heart or kidney conditions, previous fainting, or medicines affected by fasting need individualized clinical guidance.

How Rizanah helps

In the Rizanah mobile app, fasting settings can follow prayer-based or custom eating windows. Meals includes food and water logging, while Train keeps your weekly workout plan and completed workout history. Rizanah does not read sleep or symptoms and does not automatically change a workout because you are fasting, so you remain responsible for choosing a safe time and adjusting or stopping when needed.

The main idea

Use five familiar movements, two controlled sets, moderate effort, cooling, and a finish near iftar. The purpose is useful practice, not maximum fatigue.
