Daytime fasting does not guarantee weight loss. Food quantity, drinks, movement, sleep, medicines, health, and changes in body water all affect the scale. A safe plan uses balanced meals and sustainable portions without turning worship into a crash diet.

Build meals before cutting foods

At the main meal, begin with a useful protein source, vegetables or fruit, and a carbohydrate such as rice, potatoes, bread, couscous, or beans. Add fat in a portion that fits your needs. At suhoor, combine protein, carbohydrate, fiber, and fluids.

HabitPractical example
Include proteinEggs, yogurt, fish, chicken, lentils, tofu
Add produceSoup vegetables, salad, cooked vegetables, fruit
Choose a portionPlate food once, then pause before more
Keep enjoyable foodServe sweets intentionally, without guilt language
Move regularlyStrength twice weekly and walk as energy allows

Expect scale noise

Ramadan changes fluid, stored carbohydrate, digestion, and weighing time. Compare measurements under similar conditions and use a weekly trend. A 2025 meta-analysis found small average reductions in weight and fat measures that tended to return toward pre-Ramadan values afterward (meta-analysis). This shows why a one-month result is not guaranteed or automatically permanent.

Protect strength and recovery

Use two manageable strength workouts weekly to help retain function and muscle. Avoid adding hard daily cardio while also sharply restricting food. Keep protein in several meals or snacks and protect sleep. Dizziness, fainting, repeated weakness, worsening performance, or obsessive food and exercise behavior are reasons to stop and seek help.

Weight loss is not suitable for everyone. Children, many pregnant or breastfeeding people, people with eating disorders, underweight individuals, and those with certain medical conditions need individualized professional guidance. Religious exemptions should be discussed with a trusted qualified scholar.

How Rizanah helps

In the Rizanah mobile app, fasting settings can follow prayer-based or custom eating windows. Meals includes food and water logging, while Train keeps your weekly workout plan and completed workout history. Rizanah does not read sleep or symptoms and does not automatically change a workout because you are fasting, so you remain responsible for choosing a safe time and adjusting or stopping when needed.

Visit Rizanah to find the mobile app for iOS and Android.

The main idea

Use balanced portions, keep protein and strength work, allow enjoyable foods, and judge changes over time. Fasting is not a promise of weight loss, and health comes before a target number.
